Hello all, Just seeing if anybody else has the same issue. I have had my N900 now for over a week and all was fine until yesterday.

I came home and plugged my phone into charge but switched my device off , but 10 minutes later i had to use my phone so i tried to switch it back on and it was dead. It was only until i had taken the battery out and placed it back that the device became responsive. i also had to repeat this step this morning.

I hadn't installed any apps that day or the day before so i cant see this being some kind of software failure but more on the hardware side. So just gonna limp along with this for a while and see how it goes and just hoping it doesn't turn permanent.

Also on another note it also developed a dead pixel after 2 days

I had a similar issue this morning. what a galactic coincidence!

Anywayz, after a few mins of a fiddling. i've come to a revelation......

My n900 does not charge while it's off.

If the mobile is off and i hook it to power. it looks like its doin somthing. the orange light blinks a few times but then nothing. no charging takes place. while its off.

charging works fine when its on.

I wonder if it drains the battery too as i had a quarter battery ?

Although the indicator lights was pulsating in the night and this morning woke up to find it green meaning fully charged but wouldn't switch on without removing the battery and when i powered on the level meter was full.

But looking back at this morning it did try and turn on because the white light pulsed and when it got to its brightest thats when nothing happened until i removed the battery.

But at least im not the only one

Charging source may be important here. When I use the wall charger I have no problems. If I leave it connected to USB on my desktop, problems.

It seems that USB, from my computer at least, does not provide enough power to overcome what the N900 uses

Particularly if you leave the N900 connected to the internet or you are in a fringe cell phone reception area. At home I see that the N900 will be on 3G or 2G it seems depending on which way the wind blows or something.
This may chew up battery as the phone hunts networks.

USB charging while off may be a problem but wall charging while the N900 is off is not a problem in my case.

The first time I charged my N900, using the wall charger, it did not charge. I can't remember for sure whether the phone was on or off, but I believe it was off. Since then, I have always charged my phone while it was turned on, using the wall charger or computer, and have had no problems. I did notice that when using the phone while it was plugged in, the blinking yellow light that indicates it is charging only came on when I locked the screen. Which doesn't necessarily mean it wasn't charging, but I thought it was interesting.

Well my fully charged N900 while off indicated by the green led did the same thing this morning. I unplugged my charger watched the light turn white and then nothing again until i removed the battery.
