When I bought the phone I was expecting a lot of contribution. I read a lot of news about coming apps and programs and games and stuff. But it has been like a couple of months now and it has been soo quite. I'm not sure whether I should keep the phone or sell it. I hope people can convince me not to. The phone itself is good, i'm not complaining, but it's just not great.

note: I do know this is a typical developers phone.... but still

Contribute by testing applications in Extras-devel and help them get into the Extras repository. Not only will you help the developers, you'll also help everybody else get more applications.

If you're interested in developing for it or if you might find Meego interesting then hold onto it, if you're interested in apps etc then you might be better off selling it. Nothing much will happen between now and Meego/end of summer, you can expect the status quo to continue for several months yet.

If you do want to sell it, you better get a move on as prices have tumbled over the past few weeks. A lot of people seem to be having the same idea and are getting rid.

i get what u r saying but think. This phone does most of the things u need and it does tham well.

for me the browser, email, hardware keyboard and especially the multi tasking are unbeatable.

So first have a look around for a phone that can actually do it all. Then make sure it has as big a memory and then decide. I think u will be hard pushed to find a suitable replacement.

If however apps are the issue then u should sell it

Agree with the author. We shouldnt have to contribute to develop apps to get apps or test etc. We paid for a 'finished' device (although we all know thats not true). That's what a consumer expects when a product is purchased. We arent Beta users but we are kind of. We knew Maemo 6 was to come out in 2010/2011 and Maemo 5 was a stepping stone but if someone wants to know what happened to all the momentum around the device, an answer shouldnt be "you develop it".

That said - I'm actually very satisfied with a device that is developing with my use. Every day when I think i need a particular function I find a way to do it on this forum. Which is beautiful :P

I do miss some apps (cough cough google maps) but I just cannot part from the browser and the qwerty keyboard. No phone can.

Well the big PR1.2 update will be coming 'soon', so thats when we'll see more apps, at the moment developers are mainly waiting for that to roll out, then we'll see more apps becoming better.

Nokia has made developer tools easily available. Nokia should not have to make the apps. Their job was to create a stable device.

Early adopters are supposed to aid the app development process. I don't think google or apple had a million apps at launch.

Then how would you want it - like the Apple police. Not really bashing Apple, but it's pretty difficult to come up with an approval process that satisfies all. Here it all relies on users voting that the program is good enough (and stable enough) to be brought to the masses. To me that seems pretty good.
IMHO It would be better with a built in rating option, making it possible to promote an app directly from the N900.

partly possible with embedded java from sun, got google maps working, but not quite as nice as the real deal, also opera mini works.

Wait for 1.2 and ~month after that. If there is no commercial games/apps after that in Nokia store then I would advice you to sell it if you still feel disappointed.

In meant time you can play text version of nethack and fool around with cron and invent insane usage scenarios with different cli tools. YAY. [/sarcasm]

.edit
Btw. What do you mean when you say that N900 is slowing down?
