Guys, I'm reaaaaaaalllly disapointed of the "low memory" showed by the N900 when I install apps!

Seriously guys, the fact that we must delete some apps (even if they are coming from extras-dev or testing) to be able maemo keep running, is BAD.

How can we justify a 32 gb internal memory + 16gb on sdhc when we're limited that point!???

the Russians found a way... ok, but why not having a better program allowing more things than currently?

Simple, /root resides on a 256 MB flash that's faster than the 32 GB storage. /opt, where applications are suppose to install is 2 GBs out of the 32 which is slower than the 256 flash.

If you want you can search for partitioning here to change the setup but you will be running it on the slower flash storage.

The whole point of NOT installing apps randomly from extras devel/testing is that they are not optified - apps should NOT EVERY be installed in the root partition - this is just standard UNIX admin process. You are warned every time you install an app from there - if you choose to ignore that warning and install anyway then you cant really blame Nokia for that can you

Well you can increase that space - there is a guide for repartitioning it - better still is the thread on symlinking several /usr directories into somewhere else. Its in the N900 section - will try find it shortly.

As for allowing us to choose where to install the app I can think of several reasons

1) Thats not how deb packages work (at least not with a vanilla install command)
2) You are expected to install optified packages - see above post on extras devel etc.

thanks,

Just to recap : it means we can increase the 2GB space to...4 or 6 ?

And the fact that if the flash is full impact the space to receive SMS/IM
---->Does that mean as well that the SMS/IM are stored in the 256 MB ?

http://forums.internettablettalk.com...ad.php?t=35122 (repartitioning)

Good luck with that, everything is without warranty and be sure what you are doing and so on and so forth...

Maybe following things could also help:

http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=37629 (identify non-optified applications)
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=37252 (move some standard stuff away from rootfs)
