hey i was wondering is it normal to be scrolling a page and see the checked tiles ALL THE TIME? Every time i scroll down or up i see the tiles. i was thinking this isnt normal behavior because ive seen much less powerful phones (the g1) scroll whole pages without the ugly tiles..and equally powerful phones (3gs) is the same story.

any input?

I'm assuming you are talking about the "unfullscreen" button located in the bottom right corner of the browser when in fullscreen mode. As far as I know anytime there is any screen or keyboard input the "unfullscreen" button will pop up. Its designed this way (i assume) to allow easy switching between both modes. If they hadnt made a simple touchscreen button they would have had to use either a keyboard combo (which would have annoyed all the people who like to use the touch screen only) or they would have had to create another gesture which wouldnt always work correctly (i'm talking about you double tap to zoom and you too swipe to go back!)

If it really annoys you i suggest checking out some of the alternative browsers like mozilla fennec.

edit: OOOOOHHHH your talking about when the browser is being drawn to the screen and you see the checkerboard pattern! Sorry for my msunderstanding. I read on one of the bug reports that they were going to fix or improve how the browser was painted to the screen so performance should probably improve with the next firmware release.

yeah like lfcobra said. If you run your windows in normal view then you'll see title. But if you run it in full screen then you'll see full page

From my experience, no it is not normal to see it all the time. I usually see it only when the page is in middle of loading.

There was some thread earlier about bugged browser history slowing the browser and causing something like this. You might want to try emptying the history to see if it helps.

lol, im sorry, but it seems i wasnt clear in my question. As the edited post says above, yes i was talking about the checkered pattern used during the rendering of pages while scrolling. Its good to know that it has a bug filed.
