Hi,

I don't know if they were down yesterday night, but at least when I left yesterday, and since I'm here this morning, they are up and running. So maybe something might be wrong in your settings?

- did they work before?
- does it work again?
- if not, could you post the error message please, to see what is going wrong?

Cheers Daniel

Hi,

They are up and running again, had to apt-get update though.
Thanks.

Hi Hopbeat,

Sorry if they repos were down - they are under heavy load. We are working hard behind the scenes to make them faster. Note that there is also a Content Delivery Network serving up the repos so if they are down that is something that we at Maemo.org do not control.

Are the servers going down regularly? I've been trying an 'apt-get update' several times over the past couple of days but just keep getting:

Err http://repository.maemo.org fremantle/sdk Release.gpg
Temporary failure resolving 'nokes.nokia.com'

I had this problem yesterday you need to remove everything in 99proxy in
/scratchbox/user/<user>/targets/<target>/etc/apt/apt.conf.d

if you are using the sdk image then user will be maemo and target will be FREMANTLE_X86 or FREMANTLE_ARMEL.

Scratchbox keeps failing to resolve the repos for me, too, making it seem like they are down.

apt-get update
Err http://repository.maemo.org fremantle/sdk Release.gpg
Could not resolve 'repository.maemo.org'
...
etc

I have checked that the /etc/resolv.conf files are the same inside and outside the scratchbox, and have no trouble pinging repository.maemo.org from outside scratchbox.

I checked in the apt.conf directory and only have these entries:
00maemo 01autoremove 70debconf

We've had trouble--lots of trouble--with our ISP (Comcrap) DNS service failing (i added a known good DNS server to resolv.conf in a way that may or may not be effective), but in this case it works from outside scratchbox just fine, all the time, so there must be some nuance.

Classic example of arbitrary Nokia decision making. Couldn't just fallback to the no brainer of tagging with lat/lon if network isn't accessible, could you Nokia?

Is it possible to download and install these manually without the use of apt-get update?

Answering my own question again:
For reasons obscure to me, there is a separate /etc/resolv.conf for scratchbox (in /scratchbox/etc) and for each of the targets (which is what you'll see if you check /etc/resolv.conf inside scratchbox). In my case, the scratchbox one didn't have the extra nameserver info, just the target resolv.conf. Changing that made the repo domain resolve after a few tries.

Horus: you certainly could do it from http://maemo.org/packages (download the deb) but installing things that way with dpkg is not really "the right way" and may lead to confusion in apt.
