I can't get out-going email working on a certain work account. The account uses IMAP/SMTP with SSL connections and password authentication. In Modest, the options for the SMTP server are unlike what I've seen in other email clients - for authentication, the options are 'none', 'login', and 'CRAM-MD5'. In other clients, you simply say "Password authentication", just as for the IMAP server settings in Modest. So something is different here.
So I picked 'login', because it appears the closest. Sending email always fails; incoming is fine, I see folders and such. The administrators said a cert has to be imported, but the only way to import the cert is by following the threads here. Upon doing so (double-clicking the cert file in the file manager), I get an error about "invalid cert." This cert works for the smartphones that other people are using. So something else is different here.
Then I tried Nokia Messaging (email.nokia.com). In Firefox/Linux, I got a circular redirection (status bar message bounces between the same 2 addresses) and page load error, but perhaps this was a temporary problem (night of 1/13/10). Worked OK in Firefox/Windows. As an aside, the site from the first Google result for "Nokia Messaging" appears to be half-done, there's no way to actually sign-up there.
Anyhow, I enter the details in the account settings at email.nokia. There's a radio button to select SSL, but nothing to select password authentication. But since the login & password are available from the first setup screen, I thought it'll use that. Well, after a 5 or so minute wait, it errors out, saying the email server might be down, or the settings are incorrect (not helpful). I put in the same settings in Thunderbird, sending & receiving work fine.

Any ideas? Thanks.
