I don't know what Bitvise Tunnelier is but I use Winscp for my windows laptop and just the openssh line for my Debian one. In Winscp all you have to do is put the IP of your computer running openssh server in "Host Name:", root in Username and the password which you have set while installing openssh in Password. Make sure you install both server and client in the machine which you want to access from diff computer. And 'scp' will be the file protocol. In case if you are using just the openssh you can type "ssh IP.of.server" which will prompt you to enter password which would be same as above. Hope it helps.

What does it ask and what are your inputs? It should be pretty much the same thing it should ask anyway. when its the first time you are connecting either to your computer or your n900 it should ask if you want to save the connection or something.

if you want to use ssh client at your n900, install ssh server to your pc. if your pc doesn't run linux, I suggest to install ssh server to your n900.
