I've got a home wifi LAN which works pretty well. With this I can SSH to my N900 and do some stuffs from my laptop.

But each time I want to do that, I first have to activate the correct adhoc wifi connection on my phone. I can't let it always activated otherwise it would consume to much power. So each time I want to do that I have to take my N900, unlock the screen, tap the menu bar, tap on internet connection, select the correct wifi connexion, etc... This is quite long.

You know what would be great ?

I whish I could just grab my phone, shake it, and automatically the phone would connect to my LAN. And when I shake it again while the LAN is active, then it disconnects.

Anyone would like to make that possible ?

PS: rather than a shake, maybe a move like the one with the moobox would do the job...

I suspect it would be possible, but what about the situation where you shake your phone and dont want it to connect. Picking it up etc?

Yeah indeed. So a random shake would not be convenient.

Rather an accurate move such as a turn up and down, the same as with the moobox as mentioned earlier.

Also, a sound would have to be played to aknowledge the success of the operation.

or more convenient, an app which lets u select what operation to do when u shake it..... just like record a macro in word :P ....

hmmmm how about a macro button on the screen which u can record a series of steps, and it runs it when u open???? looks useful and easier to implement..... in this case, it will eat less battery and processor as it wont have to sit in the background and listen for the shake........

Is there a reason, why you have to make an Ad-Hoc WiFi connection instead of connecting to an access point (router)? Ad-Hoc WiFi has no support for power saving and is really a battery drainer.
If normal WiFi doesn't work in your case for some reason you could also consider trying to setup a Bluetooth PAN network. This should be less of a battery sucker. Or use USB-net.

A record macro would be great, indeed.

But I still think it would be nice to launch it when shaking or turning the phone down, so that we don't have to unlock the screen and so on. Ideally, I would like not to have to look at the screen. Launching the macro when I open the phone would not be good, for my not willing to execute the macro each time I use the phone.

My guess is that all what need to be done is to modify the moobox program code and make it do something recorded by the mentionned macro.

Ohh I didn't know about this diff between Adhoc and Normal wifi battery consumption.

I'll try to see about bluetooth PAN. Thanks for this clue.
