use "sudo gainroot" or "root" commands to gain root...

You have to have the rootsh program installed first, which you would find in Application manager.

By the way, there's a tip that most people don't seem to know. Instead of typing sudo gainroot you can just type the word root.

I found this in the forum:

sudo passwd root

to change the password and in the terminal it comes as

password:

and nothing is displayed after the colon no matter what I type
I typed rootme, 12345, 00000, nothing works it keeps telling me invalid password.
anybody?
how to change the password or find out what is the password set on it?

Darned if I know! Out of curiosity, if you go into Settings and Device lock and select Change lock code, does it let you change it? Assume it is now 12345 if you aren't sure.

the way sudo works is it wants the user password.
The user doesn't have a password by default.

If your sudoers file is hosed and is requesting for a password when using sudo gainroot you're in trouble.

I'd try uninstalling and re-installing rootsh in hopes it can fix it.

The way rootsh works is it sets up the sudoers file to not require a password for "sudo gainroot".. which is what all the the other commands wrap around (rootsh, root, etc).
