I made a rant a while back about my inability to navigate the Maemo site in regard to exploring software for the N900. I said I wanted less code-like navigational structures, and a more user-friendly experience; something where software screenshots, descriptions, and reviews all existed comfortably in an easliy-navigated environment.
I found it in the link above. I realize that is probably not an official Maemo site, and I don't expect I will be making it my source for downloading apps onto my N900. But when I do go into my app manager on my N900, I will now have a much better sense of what all those apps are, thanks to this site.
Certainly I have found no such clarity on the Maemo site, in spite of it being the home for all that software.
It was unfortunate that my original thread on this point got sidetracked into incidental debate over whether or not the Maemo site was owned and operated by Nokia, and some other slightly off-point emphases. My main point was this - point me in the direction of the software made for my device specifically, and let me decide what I will make use of.
I have since searched the forums for "my-maemo" and found mention made of it in posts going as far back as December. Yet I don't see it as being offered as a user-friendly alternative for software info anywhere on-site: not in forums very often, in people's sigs, etc.
Anyway, discovering it was a welcome alternative for learning about available software for my Maemo-powered device, as opposed to the rather more difficult process that is offered for that very same task from the Maemo site itself.
N900.... thick like computer
