Gents,

I'm having some problems with my phone, though the "Launch by turning" option is activated, when I turn my phone nothing happens, same with the proximity sensor, when I'm making or receiving a call the screen remains unlocked.

I've downloaded the AccDisplay application to check if the accelerometer was working and it seems fine, same with the proximity sensor which I've tested through the X Terminal.

I kindly request your help since I'm getting desperate and I feel like throwing the phone away and go back to my N97... Thanks

Mine has done this a couple of times, but a reboot fixed it. If you have already tried that, I don't know...

Yes, I've tried... Neither a reboot nor a downgrade could fix the problem. Thanks for the response though

Hi all,

i've got the same problem with the proximity sensor. If Sun or lightning is shining direct to the proximity sensor, the Screen turns off, whils yo did a phone call. you can reproduce this. Make a phone call, set the call to speakers at lets shine the SUN or a light directly to the sensor. I don't know if this is already in the Bug reporting, couldn't find it. But his has to solved soon.

My device has SW Version: 3.2010.02-8.

Cheers Clippboard.

Mine is doing the same. While outside, not with direct sunlight but with a very bright cloudy sky, the n900 screen would become black while calling. Works fine indoors.
I dont use a protective film, and i tested a friends n900 and it was working fine under the same conditions, so i guess it might be a flaw from my proximity sensor :/
Only bought it 3 days ago, so i am exchanging it for another, lets hope it isnt worst than the one i have now xD

ive had various problems like this with my N900.. one way is to turn off, take battery out for 10 seconds, then put it in and turn on.... or re-flash.

Within the last few days, my n900's proximity sensor has stopped working with the "Shortcutd" program, which I use to bring up the Dashboard/task-switcher. It is still working for purposes of blanking the screen when in a phone call. I am running the latest firmware and the only other application I can think of that I have installed which might mess with this underlying subsystem is Simple Brightness Applet.

It was really strange to me how spontaneously this stopped working for no easily apparent reason.

Hi there, I'm having this problem too; the screen remains black if caliing someone while I'm outside/or someone calls me while I'm outside- in home it works perfectly.
Please tell me this is a software or a hardware problem and how can I fix it, if i can?

guys, i had the same problem and now i think that is running just fine.

1st, if you have any shield above the screen, take it off! (90% of the proximity sensor problem come from that)

2nd remove the battery for MORE than 15sec, after that, press and hold power key / camera key and whatever key to make shure that ANY power were drained out

3rd put battery again and turn on the phone.

4th IF you're using any "xingling - china/ebay/ etc" battery, swap for the original (i don't konw if it really make any difference but, i did it too)

ps: i heard programs like "Shortcut" cam mess this sensor. If you have it, uninstall it as well.

i did it and worked for me. now, 100% ok both proximity and turning.

I've just uninstalled the apps that I've previously installed; restarted the phone, did a "clear device" stopped the phone, removed the battery for MORE than 15sec, after that, I pressed and hold power key / camera key.
I powered the phone and ... the problem with the proximity sensor is still there...

PLEASE HELP!!!
