For no reason that I can explain...

Certain applications on my phone can't read the files anymore. This seriously sucks! For example, whenever I try to install an application, it says "not enough memory in target location", and my media player says there are no songs...

At the moment, it just seems like the media player and application installer are the ones having issues. All else seems fine.

-the file manager still sees all my files, and other programs that actually save files to the disc see the disc...

The only things that I have done since this started are:

- added all the stable, non-SDK repositories on http://repository.maemo.org/#sdk_repositories
- uninstalled a couple of random applications (not vital ones, just junk)
-restarted the phone
-plugged/unplugged the USB a few times

Any ideas how to sort this out guys? Tried restarting the phone too.

Thanks so much!

open xterminal and type:
Code:
df | grep rootfs

sorry mate, it didn't work :/

Code:
rootfs 233344 230872 0 100% /
ubi0:rootfs 233344 230872 0 100% /
...is the output, but the problem isn't fixed.

It is very strange...I can play songs if i open them through the file manager, but as soon as i stop playing the song, the file manager forgets it and says there are no songs. I noticed that opening folders in the file manager that contain songs takes quite a long time.

Again, anyone who is interested in this, remember that the application updater also can't write to the disk, and the operation is now always failing whenever it tries to refresh the catalogues.

Please help guys this is a nightmare.

your rootfs is full.
please go in your app-manager, click on the top-bar and go to your catalogues.
deactivate extras-testing and extras-devel.
(your app-manager should do an update)
then do the df-line again.
(it's doing nothing. it only outputs the usage of your rootfs.)

remember:
don't enable/activate catalogues which contain unstable apps like testing and devel.
they might cause serious problems and they will use free space on your small rootfs-partition which always causes problems!

you may want to post which catalogues you have activated. (maybe there are some more to deactivate)
and you may want to download the "storageusage" app which shows all installed apps and how much memory they are using. so you may consider to uninstall apps which are using too much rootfs (as they aren't optified yet)

Ok first things first, what is a recommended amount of diskspace for the rootfs? At the moment I am up to 89%, is this bad?

Here are the catalogues I currently have enabled:
Nokia Applications
Nokia System Software Updates
Ovi
maemo.org
Bora Extras
Chinook Extras
Diablo Extras
Fremantle Extras
Gregale Extras
Maemo Extras
Mistral Extras
Scirocco

I am planning on removing junk programs I installed, its just a daunting task as it takes about a minute to refresh my list of installed apps each time I uninstall one...

I will take up your recommendation on getting the disk usage app.

Thanks so much you are a legend.

WTF???? You can delete:
Code:
Bora Extras
Chinook Extras
Diablo Extras
Fremantle Extras
Gregale Extras
Maemo Extras
Mistral Extras
Scirocco
Those are either duplicates of the ones you already have, or ones for old (or antique in some cases) versions of Maemo.

i think when you get it factory new rootfs is used at about 65%?!
(anywhere on this forum the accurate percentage is mentioned)

mine is now at 82%. and someone said that problems appear at about 97%.

Here are the catalogues I currently have enabled:
Nokia Applications
Nokia System Software Updates
Ovi
maemo.org
Bora Extras
Chinook Extras
Diablo Extras
Fremantle Extras
Gregale Extras
Maemo Extras
Mistral Extras

holy moly ^^

you don't need most of them!
just keep the two nokia, ovi and maemo.org.
please delete the rest.

i don't think that you installed too much junk now that i'm looking at all your activated catalogues and how much memory they are using. ^^

I will take up your recommendation on getting the disk usage app.
useful app. keep an eye on your rootfs.

Thanks so much you are a legend.
