Is the n770/n800 capable of connecting a USB2VGA adaptor to it's usb port?
The N800 has a usb 2.0 high-speed port, so there should at least be no usb-bandwith limit.

According to this site:
http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/HowTo/AddVGAAdapter

There are also devices available that support linux...

Anybody an idea?

Let us know when you've got that N800's USB port in host mode...

Ok, let's make the assumption the usb-host mode is working, through internally wired cables or an active usb-hub, whatever. Will there be ANY chance that this adaptor may be working, then?
Just curious if there is any hope...

Okay, I'll play.

You'll need drivers; I'm assuming that porting the kernel driver and the shell script to OMAP architecture wouldn't be unsurmountable (although the driver is for the 2.4 kernel, so a caveat might be in order). From the comments on the page you quoted, it seems that even after that not everything might be hunky-dory.

The 64K dollar question is obviously: Why?

WHY???
Why does any laptop have an external monitor port?
Suppose you want to edit a photo on a large screen? Or view a document in full-page view. All we have to do is modify the maemo window base class to be expandable and a few details like that. Perhaps add mouse support.

If someone gets this working I'll be quite grateful! In fact, it is on my to-do list, but not for at least a few months.

I figured that, in stead of going for the hardware solution, something like a VNC server on the N800 would be more handy.

No?

Yes, but then I would need two computers: the Nxxx and a more expensive one just to run my screen. That implies doing maintainance on the 'screen' computer: ensuring updates are installed, thinking about viruses, etc. The USB screen solution is cheaper, easier and more functional; suppose I want to do a presentation or watch a video on a screen projector? Do I have to bring my 'screen-driver-laptop' to a meeting just to drive the screen?

From this thread..
http://www.oesf.org/forums/lofiversi...hp/t11129.html

It looks like there are 2.6 kernel drivers for the usbvga adapters. I am having a hard time finding the actual devices available online or any other info on them.
