I live in an area where 3G coverage is a little patchy -- generally the area has coverage, but just walking around 10-100m in different directions can get one to vary from 5 bars to 0. All carriers suffer from a greater or lessor extent

I've gone on some walks & noted signal strength/quality on paper along with a gps tracklog, but figured it would be handy to augment a GPS track app with a log of i) 2/3G ii) network iii) cell/location iv) signal level/quality. Obviously I could log this seperately and merge data later, but doing it together would be easier.

This isn't likely to be a quick effort, whilst I'n a developer I'm woefully short of time, and never built anything for the N900. I'd probably hope to see what the Qt toolkit offers.but it could be anything

Given this
* Any apps that already do this?
* Any good (open source?) apps to start off with a base? or support for "Plugins"? -- I'm figuring a basic GPS tracking app could be a good starting point
* Any recommendations on figuring out how to get gsm level data from the phone (not looked into this yet).

Ultimately I'd like to overlay network quality on a google map to visualize the measured differences at least for my typical locations/routes.
