ever since saturday i cannot get on the internet because of something called "network problem" and every website i go it says that, I tried all of the connections, still nothing. ON sunday it happened but the network was so slow, it'll take like 5 min to connect. BUT WAIT, eventually the error comes back saying NETWORK PROBLEM! , all that waiting for nothing, so i gave up. I don't have a router yet but i seem to have other people's connection around where i live. But is there anything that is wrong, anything that i need to do. or should i go ahead and buy a router.

If you're glomming onto someone else's router, you're going to face interference, signal weakness and other issues. You can buy decent routers for $40; go ahead and make the investment.

What if I'm experiencing identical problems and my router is 10 feet away? Very frustrating as this is the second 770 I've owned and I thought the new OS would solve this but apparently it hasnt. I just bought this today from CompuSA and it has 11/29/06 stamped so i know it's a very fresh shipment from Nokia. Anyone figure out a way around this. I get Network Problem 80 percent of the time and when it finally connects it only stays connected for 20 minutes or so. Ive also noticed that the signal strength spikes frequently while standing 5 feet away from my router. I've never had any issues using wifi on this router (laptop, sonypsp, nokia E61, xbox360, sirius stiletto, etc.etc.) Help!

Have you tried changing the channel on your router?
Are there other routers in your area causing interference?
Do you have 2.4GHz cordless phones?

I have a linksys 802.11b and it doesnt have an option to change the channel. I've had this router for years. Has it somehow become antiquated and it's time to upgrade? I do see many wireless connections in my house (sometimes up to 8) and I dont have a home phone so that wouldnt interfere. My neighborhood does not have much space in between homes so perhaps I'm picking up other neighbors phones. It's odd that no other wi-fi device I own or have owned dont suffer from this problem and something that is specific to wireless web browsing does. i guess it's a testament to how sensitive it is. I'm really getting frustrated as I've owned a 770 in the past and returned it after a week due to the same problems. Now with the release of the new OS I decided to give it a shot as I really love this thing but it's becoming increasingly more frustrating as I continue to use it. If anyone can suggest a router if they think that's the issue. Also, it's an unsecured network but I dont think that would make any difference as I said, every other device has worked flawlessly with no special conditions made. I've turned them on, they've searched and found my router and connected immediately and permanently. Bah!!! Hopefully there is a quick fix, but i've searched the thread for the same issues and there hasnt been one definitive "fix" to this...unless I'm just missing it through the countless others that seem to suffer network problems with this thing.

I had one of the first ones on the market (bought in 2000), and you could change the channel on it. you have to log into it to make changes.

I have had good luck with my Netgear router, but every time I try to connect to linksys routers (my own and others) I have problems. This was using both the earlier and current version of the 2006 os.

I am still trying to understand this problem. It acts like it wants to connect, but will not.

This is with no web / security at all on either side.

I've seen good and bad linksys router. Just like all electronics, sometimes you get a dude.

Before you decide to blame the 770, get a new G router. If it doesn't fix the problem just make sure you get it from a place with a good return policy.

My 770 has always worked perfectly with my Linksys WRT54GS.

For the OP - if this problem started at a particular time and nothing has changed on the 770 or your router, I'd have to say this sounds like an interference issue and someone else (a neighbour) is now drowning out your connection. Try changing channels as suggested.

Chances are you are experiencing interference - either from your other devices, or from other WiFi sources nearby (or if you don't use MAC address filtering, you could be "sharing" this network with a neighbor who is slowing down your network). The signal meter spiking up and down is likely to be real.

If you were to get another wireless router (802.11g minimum, MIMO optionally), and set it up securely on an unused channel (probbaly all the other 802.11b networks are using your frequency) you will find a much higher thoughput and much less problems. You are best doing MAC address filtering and encryption, too for a number of reasons.

If there are any 2.4GHz phones in your house - turn them off, too, and go out and get 5.8GHz replacements - they can do a number on WiFi as they share the band.....
