fellow members,

I have had my N900 for alittle over two weeks now...I have been with AT&T the past few years on an Iphone. Love my N900, but since I have an unlocked phone, i'm considering jumping ship to T mobile which supports 3g on the N900...unfortunately AT&T only has 2.5g/Edge support on N900.

is it worth it to jump ship to Tmobile for 3g support? I heard 3g on Tmobile isn't very stable and not at fast as on other networks? also there are concerns of how widespread 3g support is ...some ppl say its spotty coverage at best?

glad to be part of the community.

I left AT&T for T-Mobile because I had ordered an N900. I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area, where the AT&T 3G coverage is (or was) stunningly poor.

T-Mobile's working fine for me, and I'm spending less with them than I did with AT&T.

Hi moester, there is a thread or two on this topic somewhere, but IMHO if nothing is holding you back definitely jump ship.

I have a family plan on ATT which I used my N900 on for about 2 weeks, I then purchased a contract free Even More plus line from Tmobile last week to test 3G and the difference is night and day. T-mobile 3G is lightning fast here in NYC compared to ATT (high percentage of iPhone users here methinks). The ability to use data and voice simultaneously is another benefit. You really get to use all the power of the N900 to do things like stream internet radio and video, as well as VOIP services over 3G which is simply not up to par with the 2.5G of EDGE on ATT.

I would totally jump ship if I could but I have to convince my wife and her brother to switch and they both have unlocked s60 phones on ATT bands

i just transfer on t-mo last week.. well, everyone knows that t-mo coverage sucks.. but if u have coverage on 3G ... its not that bad... on at&t i can't watch video on youtube continously, but on 3g at t-mo i can..... my only concerned on t-mo.. is that the coverage really sucks... its so hard to get 3g connection.. thats all... but paying less and getting 3g connection.. i think its worth it to move from at&t to t-mo...

thanks for the replies. this is a very active forum. big plus.
i know that 3g will deff make this device flourish and bring out all its features BUT my concern is how often will i find myself in @scenario where i dont have wifi access and need to use 3g?
most of the time if im listeing to media or relying on heavy internet treaffic im usually on some sort of wifi. this esp is worrisome if tmobile 3G coverage is spotty or slow.

Hey Moester,

Ive been on a family plan on ATT since the beginning of my consumer electronic/service provider career :P And for some reason, I had no remorse when switching my dad and I over to t-mobile. One thing that really attracted me (aside from t-mo supporting there 3g and now ATT) is there even more PLUS plans. They actually reward you for using an unlocked phone... is there any other service provider in the usa like this?

Jump shift as fast as you can. AT&T is way too expensive. I get 3.5G all the time. I don't think i got that with the my xperia when i was on AT&T.

T-Mobile is probably the only reason I'm keeping my n900. The bill is $60 for unlimited web + texts + pic message + 500 minutes. Compare that to $120 for AT&T for the same thing but only 1500 texts a month. The coverage is a lot better, too. I'm in Northeast Indiana.

I honestly don't even use 3G, though. 2G is fine for me even browsing the web. 3G uses a lot more battery than 2G so I tend to keep it turned off.

On your phone (the N900) I can assure you that T-Mobile will have better support the AT&T

So the quality of AT&Ts coverage is not really an issue.

It has been a year+ since I was in the US but yeah T-Mobiles 3g is still growing and has a few issues on the east coast anyway.

But it was inproving rapidly. Dont expect much coverage in the boondocks though. Not yet.

I recently switched from ATT to Tmo after paying ETF. In my opinion it was worth it. Tmo is improving their service, I believe it is hard to imagine Tmo 3G service in upstate NY (Albany) but it works. Not great speeds but good enough (~0.6 MBps). I would encourage switching, Tmo is not a money leecher like ATT is.
