Is the reason my Contacts in my N900's Address Book will go from 350+ back down to less than 175--if/when I power off the device, or the battery dies--because the Contacts are not actually saved on my device...? Instead, the contacts are uploaded from my "additional accounts"--i.e. Facebook, Twitter, etc. where that's where the contact IS saved--and unless I actually save them to the N900's Address Book...anytime I power off the device, or the battery dies...the contacts will disappear?

Is this correct?

Lemme know.

If you don't have the contacts saved ot your device the N900 acts as an IM client. The contact information is reread on reconnection. If you merge them with contact entries then they stay, alternative is to provide some additional information and the entries are copied to the contact database.

Actually the other one to be wary of is that deleting a contact from your IM account in the contact database 'helpfuly' removes it from your IM account too. If you want certain contacts to remaqin when powering off then simply edit the contact when attached and either merge with the main entry for that person or simply add a field for name and save.
