What's the latest on the front facing camera. As I understand it, it cannot be accessed with the current firmware. Is that still true? Obviously it would be great for use with video chat. Is there any official word on when it will be working for Skype, GoogleTalk etc?

Just search for the "Mirror" application on this page :-)

Like others have said, it can be accessed, its just video calling hasn't been integrated yet. These sort of things will get updated in due course.

At the moment you can't take a photo with the build in application.

Why would you want to do that? the camera on the back is _much_ better ...

The development version of mirror can take a snapshot, just a little patience while it trickles down the Extras QA queue.

Considering the quality of the small cam I would disagree It's better to flip the phone, snap a photo with the main cam and crop.

supposingly the www.amsn-project.net people are using the front facing cam in their Maemo5 version of the aMSN program. Looks very promissing.

They even have a screenshot of the program with local and remote webcam, live, as it should be.

I'll certainly try it once I ever get my N900, pretty soon now I hope...

See this thread also http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...ghlight=webcam. And this one http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...440#post382440. Perhaps a moderator could merge these threads?
