GMAIL - I use the standad built email application here for my gmail account with no problems at all. Connects well, sends & reieves well. I run gmail alongside two other hotmail acconts on the same device via the built in mail application.
APPS - Plenty of apps out there for this phone. No quite as many as th IPhone but you aint tied to IStore and everyone i've downloaded has been free, not just a gimmick and very fit for purpose.
Maemo 6 - Well i'm just enjoying Maemo 5 for the moment, if 6 becomes avail on the 900 then great but if not i'm sure the deice will still suit and match my needs i.e phone, sms, mms, audio & visual media, internet, calender, alarm clock, camera.
Asthetics - A bit weighty but nothing untoward and i got used to the bit of weight without realising.
Disk Space - No complaints
Speed - Not quite the IPhone interface that seems to be the measured standard as it can go a little glitchy at times. Thats only for fractions of seconds as opposed to seconds in some symbian devices. Gobbles up multi tasking, works well on vodaphone mobile internet and amazing on the home wireless internet.
Camera - Both still and video camera tremendous no complaints or faults from here to date. Just does it's job, simple.
Qwerty Keyboard - A bit different from a traditional mobile keypad and someting you get used to with ease and would be soon up to speed on it.
I'm hoping that Nokia sort out PC Suite/Ovi Suite as they dont yet fully integrte with the device. Nokia Maps is quick & funtional in its own right but no way close to the symbian equivalent at the present time so again hoping Nokia with sort that out too. Landscape mode is something that i've got to appreciate but i still desire a portrait version for ease of hand sms/mms 'ing on the move.
Overall the pro's far outweight the cons for me. One great capable device and looking fwd to seeing it evolve into whatever Nokia, Maemo & Intel make it.

I should add that I particularly don't like the Droid.. to me it looks ugly. I think the N900 is far sexier. Qwerty is VERY important to me... I'm not giving up a hardware qwerty keyboard for any phone. Which means I detest the removal of the hardware keyboard for the N920 and rules out half of HTC devices. I have a N800 and I hate that I have to use the on screen keyboard... takes up way too much space. Also, I don't want a windows mobile phone... I think WM looks dated and is slow. The only other phones I've looked @ really that I'd really buy are:
1. The N97 (I use my phone HEAVILY tho... so I can't deal with the memory issues)
2. The Palm Pre Plus (ONLY if there were a GSM version though)
1. Rigid email client. Need a client that will handle my daily Gmail account. I get many emails on a daily basis, anywhere between 10 and 30. I use lots of folders as well in Gmail. I need the client/device to switch smoothly between GPRS/EDGE and the Wifi connection in my office or @ home without me interfering.
2. Availability of apps ... wide number of apps. I love to download apps. I hate the fact that Maemo only has so limited number of apps. Can I rely on the development from Qt... what's on the horizon for Qt? Am I to expect lots more apps developed in Qt that says in probably just a matter of months there'll be hundreds more? Qt, seems poised to be the saviour of Maemo right now... it's the only constant I see as maemo changes skin.
Or can I rely on Ubuntu mobile... I know there are thousands of apps for Ubuntu... is that a reasonable substitute?
From my reading... I yell "lack of strategy" @ Nokia... Maemo 6... not many persons seem to be sure @ this point if the N900 will be able to run Maemo 6. I don't want to be a guinea pig buying the N900... sure, it's a great device... but great devices should EVOLVE!!!!! Y, if I want to be apart of all the bells and whistles of Maemo 6 will I need to throw away my "great" device. That's crap.
Are all my hopes lost hoping for a widening of development of apps for the N900???
There are certain other criteria that are very important.. but so far I'm pretty satisfied that the N900 meets these.
- Aesthetics
- Disk Space (lots of it)
- Speed... snappy interface, little or no lags in opening things. Behaves well while multitasking
- Excellent camera
- Qwerty keyboard
If the N97 didn't do so pooooooorly on memory management... I would have bought that without thinking twice bcoz of the size of the symbian community.
