I'd appreciate your help on this. I had a couple of programs running- web browser to mention one- and was copying files from ext mc to internal mc, via terminal. My N900 hung up totally and after waiting for some 10 minutes I decided to push the power button and shut down N900. Now my internal memory card is read only and as root I can not copy or move to anything it. Mount shows that /home/user/MyDocs is rw

If MyDocs is rw, then what's telling you that it is read-only?

I done this to /home/user/MyDocs

I ended up having to sudo root, unmount the volume and run fsck on it.

Took an fsck -f followed by a reboot to remount the volume. Mine had an incorrectly reported free volume size.
