Try clearing your cache + cookies and try again.

Unless you hacked the BBC's website just to corrupt their CSS documents, I suggest a local internet issue. Turn your modem/router on and off (or reset if such a button exists) and do the same for your N900. After half an hour or so you should have the full functionality back.
Quite a heavy handed method but by far the safest and easiest, and works best on a Sunday evening

The format you were getting is iPhone, don't suppose you've been using hide web client program with iphone web id in it have you?
