My suggestion would be check the thread on adblock-plus for the n900 and change the cache setting in your browser to 40MB.

I guess I should have re-worded my post because I'm more concerned with the time it sits there before it even begins to load the page.
Just to re-iterate.. on a wifi network loading facebook touch the time it takes to actually load the web page is almost instant but the fact that it hangs for 5-10 seconds before actually loading it is horrible.

Try a different web browser if MicroB (I assume you are using the stock browser) is not fast enough for you. Opera is available. Check the thread on it and see if it is faster.

Could it be the web browser starting up? There is definitely, at least on my N900, a rather long delay while MicroB loads but subsequent pages loads are pretty snappy.

I remember seeing a bug (fixed in PR1.2) that means that if you have a large browser history, the browser takes a long time to start up and shut down.
You could try deleting your history via the Clear Private Data menu and see if it helps.
