Hi guys,

Heres the problem. . . i managed to connect to my work pc and my home pc using their respective wifi connections.

but for some reason i cant connect to my home pc using the office wifi connection through rdesktop.!!!

it works fine with the same wifi . .ie . . using rdesktop will connect when i connect using my home wifi and my home pc or my work pc and work wifi. . .

Is there any way to connect to my home pc using different wifi connections other than my home wifi connection??

also I wanted to know if there was a way to hear sound on the n900 when remotely connected using rdesktop.

Thks in advance . . .

So, just confirming here....

using Home wifi = home rdesktop works
using work wifi = work rdesktop works

but try the home pc from work and it doesnt?

I'd suggest a routing / port issue?
Easier to fix on your home router, but sounds like your router doesn't allow rdesktop ports through.

Unfortunatley i dont use it outside of work, but i'm sure someone here can list the port range. - not quite as easy as telling you what to do though, as there are a million and one router makes/models!

from work can you do this command : telnet <home address> 3389, like the prior poster it will tend to be a port forwarding issue on your router.

you should be able to on you machine in the command window type
just replace the address with you public address, might be an IP or Domain Name.
for example
telnet 32.32.32.32 3389
telnet myhomepc.com 3389

If Telnet doesn't connect it indicates you most probably haven't opened 3389.
to find you home network public ip goto http://www.whatsmyip.org/

On your Router you would have something similar to Port Forwarding , so it you would specify forward port 3389 to local machine IP address.
so any remote Desktop traffic coming in would get redirected to your local PC.

PS if you to open Remote Desktop up then ensure your Windows Password is secure and your username is not admin or something. Also apply the latest windows updates

In regards to the sound issue, i dont think the N900 Remote Dekstop client redirects sound, but if you want access to your audio on your PC you can use something like Knots for the N900, ive tried it locally and it works but in should work remotely.

Havent used rdesktop in quite some time. Does it only work on wifi now? I used to be able to use it on my 2g edge connection back before the update. Now it just wont connect at all. :/ Sometimes its not worth updating.
