I'm not sure how many people have the navicore 07 navigation kit for the 770 but I expect there are a few out there wondering how to get the traffic announcement stuff working.

I asked Navicore about it and they said they are working on it and a patch will be released. Well funnily enough, you don't have to.

Now I will say this - when you enable the traffic messaging on your tablet it will upset navicore a little bit and what I've found is that the longer your route is the more likely you are to get a crash - you've been warned.

So basically you'll need an internet enabled mobile phone with bluetooth which you've paired to the tablet and has permission to download data.

Next thing you need to do is turn off any RSS services etc you might have that are set to download in the background on a timer. Firstly you aren't going to be reading them when you're driving anyway and secondly it will upset Navicore if there are things going on in the background.

So we have an internet connectable tablet, twinned with the mobile phone and the GPS device with no background processes running.

Next, boot up all devices and when you're at the desktop, connect tablet to phone and accept request to browse internet.

Start up navicore and connect to your GPS device and wait for it to locate you on the map.

Now, go into the menu then go to settings then server.

Make sure you have the following settings:

server address: services.navicoretech.com
port: 80
connection timeout: 30 s

Now go to the traffic tab.

Traffic Information should be "on"

Dynamic Routing set to "yes"

Update interval "10 minutes"

You can set update interval to anything you want but 10 minutes is pretty useful when you are driving in traffic - 30 if you're on the open road or it's quiet. 60 would only be good for travelling the outback in Australia.

Come out of settings now plot your route and it will download any routing info from your phone as it calculates. It will then do it on the fly every 10 minutes which you'll see as it will flash up the "calculating route" window and the VO will tell you "We've just made an adjustment to your route" if it decides it's quicker to avoid problems.

Possible problems:

The route planning screen goes white - I thought this was a crash - it isn't, it might hang for a couple of minutes though while it's calculating different route paths - if you're on a long journey [more than 100 km] there could be lots of potential routes so let it do its thing.

Navicore craches after an update - this does happen - not all the time but it can do - mostly because it is trying to render maps, download and plan a new route an show POI at the same time. I've found by reducing your POI down to the minimum you need does tend to help on this one. Also not having your map in 3D helps too though it is much easier to read in 3D when you're driving than 2D overhead.

Note that this feature is completely unsupported by Navicore [possibly because it is a bit flakey] but it does work. I've done several journeys with mine now and it is great though I always make certain I reboot my IT and phone whenever I stop for fuel / pee / tea and that seems to decrease the flakiness drastically.

Cheers

Something else I thought I'd mention - don't even think about trying to play music etc in the background whilst this is running - I'm not sure why having the traffic announcements on increases the memory usage dramatically but it does and it will just end in tears.
