I just finished paging through all the threads in this forum after Googling got me nothing, so I'm not too optimistic about getting an answer, but I'm shocked to see no one else is having this issue, so maybe its something I can resolve.

I use Grsync + a server side script to copy random files music from my Linux server to the 770 approximately each night. Now that I've pulled the OGG GStreamer plugin in from the dpkg on the forum here, my OGGs sound great, but I've noticed that quite a few of my MP3s play in what I'd describe as "AM-radio" quality, like a 32 or 64Kbps-encoded MP3. The problem is, they aren't; I checked, and all the ones I'm having trouble with are 44KHz and between 128 and 192 Kbps encoding. A lot of them are tracks I bought off emusic.com a few years ago, but its not limited to those. Its a consistent problem with particular tracks, so its not something weird like a track that played fine yesterday sounds like crap today.

I'm running the 2.1 release of OS2006, planning to upgrade to 2.2 tonight to see if that helps, but I'm not expecting it will.

Anyone have a similar problem? Is there a fix for this? Thanks!

Never happened to me, but did it happen before you installed the OGG GStreamer plugin? If not, chances are the problem (possible transcoding) is being caused by the plugin. However if transcoding were taking place I'd expect your CPU usage to go through the roof.

It was the same before i installed the plugin. I may try uninstalling the ogg dpkg after I do the firmware update just to be sure, but I do know the problem predates my installing the ogg plugin.

Finally upgraded to 2.2; I played some of the angry MP3 files before installing the Ogg plugin, and they still sounded bad. So, its not anything that's been fixed in 2.2, and its not related to the Ogg Gstreamer plugin. Maybe I'm just crazy?
