Yesterday I picked up my N900 at the local shop (yay!). So today I connected it to the Nokia Software Updater. It seems my phone is running firmware 2.2009.51.1. And the updater want to upgrade to firmware 10.2010.19.1.

Of course I did some searching and reading. But I'm not sure if I'm about to face the "MyNokia" problem described here. I also found a bugreport on this issue (link), but the "MyNokia" issue seems open at the moment.

Any thoughts (or advice) before I proceed? Is this the upgrade to PR1.2 I have been reading about (or did I miss anything)?

All you have to do is to update OTA. go to toepassingsbeheer > bijwerken (if you have the dutch language installed) and a maemo 5 update should come up. Rest is easy. Don't forget to back up first, though. probably not needed, but you never know.

Thanks the quick reply. OTA was something I wanted to avoid since I do not have internet from my provider (although I can, out of my subscription, but at an extra expensive rate).

OTA means WiFi as well, not just internet from your provider.

Yes, this is PR1.2. You can upgrade over your normal WiFi.
To avoid the illegal MyNokia registration, take a look at this page:

As far as I know, removing the sim won't prevent the sms in the end (it will be send as soon as the sim is in?).

On the location where I am, there is no wifi. When I read and combine all, it seems that I need to upgrade: either through the updater under Windows or download the file and install manually under Linux, both without the sim. Manually create the file /home/user/.cherry_state and switch off/switch on (since reboot is not configured). When all goes well, repeat the procedure and insert the sim.

The upgrade went like clockwork. Sim out, update, create .cherry_state, switch off, switch on, check files, switch off, sim back and switch back on again.

There is no MyNokia installed. Perhaps because I did not register (before) on the nokia website with MyNokia???

No, it was probably because you took the SIM card out. Many others here didn't have a MyNokia account prior to the update.

Thread moved to Maemo 5 / Fremantle.
