I wouldn't have thought it would be hard to write a widget for that. I'm no developer though!

I've done something like that on mine, I created a lock.desktop file and put it under
/usr/share/applications/hildon

with the following code in it:
[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Version=1.0
Type=Application
Name=Lock Screen
Comment=lock_screen
Exec=/usr/bin/dbus-send --print-reply --system --dest=com.nokia.mce /com/nokia/mce/request com.nokia.mce.request.req_tklock_mode_change string:locked
Icon=connectivity_wlan_securitylevel3
then you can add a shortcut for the application "Lock Screen"

you could even create 4 files with "Lock Screen 1", "Lock Screen 2" etc ... so you can have it on every screeens ... that saves you to swipe to the screen with the Lock shortcut on.

You know you can just double click the power key to lock??? Way quicker than finding a desktop icon and pressing.

it depends on the situation ... having 2 options makes it even better I found.
When you have the phone on landscape mode I found a bit awkward to double press the power button. it is handy on portrait mode thoug (direct with right hand thumb)

Sounds like fraaaaanka wants the desktop icon to perform a "Secure device" and then a "Lock screen and keys".

Me too.
