Dell might just have earned it.

Documents recently unsealed in a three-year-old lawsuit against Dell show that the company’s employees were actually aware that the computers were likely to break. Still, the employees tried to play down the problem to customers and allowed customers to rely on trouble-prone machines, putting their businesses at risk....

Dell sold millions of these computers from 2003 to 2005 to major companies like Wal-Mart and Wells Fargo, institutions like the Mayo Clinic and small businesses.
Yeah. People complain about the inability to opt-out of a SMS, or an antenna that's sensitive to touch, but to knowingly sell and refuse to fix it, I'd classify that as "evil". Not the first time, I'm sure, sorta glad it led to their downfall of sorts.

Given my problems with Dell, I can believe this.

I had one of those at work back then, probably one of the last from 2005. Couple of years later it just shut down one morning. We had contractors on site for PC maintenance, the guy came in, shot a glance at the model number, and said "I'll be back with a new mobo".

They sure knew all about it already... when they pulled the mobo out, almost all of the (orange) capacitors were puffed and swollen like so many little pumpkins...

Truth be told, after that episode, the old beast was still slow as molasses but indestructible... I had to make a fuss to get a knew one a year ago :-)

The capacitor quality issue is widespread. I've had them go bad in my TV, refrigerator and PCs.
