This is an awful post, why don't you make the title a bit more informative. As it's used for seearching the forum.

Just turn the device off/on should fix any glitches with hildon desktop and portrait switching.

So what exactly are you trying to do? Can you be a bit more specific?

There are two main modes in which the device can operate in landscape and portrait modes: phone and browser. IIRC, you need to press a specific key sequence on the keyboard in order to activate portrait mode for the browser, however the phone should work out of the box.

Start the phone application, then open the keyboard. The application should switch automatically from portrait to landscape mode.

actually, you need to enable it in the settings of the web browser, The phone UI does it by default on sliding keyboard in/out and accel.

I have had this problem. Weirdly it went away after removing the battery.

stay out if you got no helping hand please

donna,

you need to be more specific!

Which program are you trying to auto rotate? (keypad sounds like phone to me)

Not all programs support portrait use but those who do, have it in the settings to be turned on/off. (At least the officials afaik)

Oopen the Phone app -> press the title bar with the little down arrow -> select 'Turning control' -> select how you want the phone to behave.

Hope this helps
