hi there!

just got my n900 and have the following situation:

i placed my current simcard into the phone and went to the contacts and selected "copy contacts from simcard". now all my contacts are visible.

1) were these numbers saved to the phone meaning that if i place a new/empty simcard into the phone that all numbers are still there?

if not, how do i resolve this?

2) how do i save new contacts that werent on the simcard onto the simcard and not only to the phone?

thanks in advance!

thats weird! i used to be able to do that with every other nokia phone (symbian). so whats the solution to creating new contacts that werent in the siim before and then changing to another phone? i have to type in all non-simcard numbers into the new phone or use bluetooth/usb?

Yes, that. Saving contacts to a SIM card is an inferior method anyway, as you can't save extra information such as addresses, birthdays, avatar images, multiple numbers to one contact... (correct me if that's possible with some SIM cards)

You can not copy contacts to the SIM card. It's a one way ticket, SIM to phone only.

The N900 is a tablet computer with (some) phone features, so please, stop being surprised.

There are several threads on this subject, as well as bug reports and brainstorms. It is remotely possible PR1.3 may address some SIM issues, but it's anyones guess if this particular feature will be added.

so whats the solution to creating new contacts that werent in the siim before
There is no solution, and I think most would argue there doesn't need to be one in this day and age - there are numerous methods for selecting all your contacts and transferring via bluetooth or sending over the network. You can also sync your contact list with numerous external systems.

Lol you make a lot of good points but I hate seeing this phrase. People always use this to excuse the N900 missing out so many basic functions. That is just wrong.

Oh please. Nokia's much older "GSM/WCDMA dual mode portable multimedia computer", aka N95, can do this.
