Greetings everyone, i got my n900 last week, had a few problems and solved a few myself. still need help,

1. If my firmware is the latest version, is flashing my firmware still going to help improve battery performance?

2. My phone can find and connect to my WiFi at home, but web browers (both MicroB and firefox) can not open web page. As far as I know, my router has no firewall or proxy settings. My phone works with GPRS access point. My application manager sometimes works sometimes not with my WiFi.

3. When using OVI maps, how can I set my screen backlight to be on at all time?

4. Does anyone know which app drains power at the back?

5. When using the battery-eye app, it shows my battery can only reach 1200mAh when fully charged, is this a defect battery? What are your readings please?

6. What's the differece between the different PR1.2 firmwares for different regions, such as USA, UK, middle east etc? I am in Australia, should I use the Global version firmware?

somebody please help me, appreciated!

1. No.

2. what error do you get? does browsing work from other access points? try your local coffee shop. make sure your phone is allocated an IP address on your LAN, and that it has a gateway and DNS servers.

3. in global (not maps only) settings, set your backlight to max (2 mins)

Thanks

for Q2,

Yes, it works with McDonald WiFi, so I guess it must be my homw WiFi settings.

I'm not sure what would be wrong with your network, You can always try changing the channel of your home WIFI network.
Also, goto your settings and delete your networks from the saved connections and try connecting to it again(will ask for password again).

1. No

2. As stated above this might be a settings problem of your router.

3. "simple brightness applet" adds fast control over your screen brightness and an always on button to your status menu

4. Anything updating things over wifi or 3G

5. The readings are not very precise, don't worry about. Also battery power will improve with the first few charges

6. due to law cases it cannot be shipped with the global version, don't know what is the exact difference but global is has no restrictions I guess

thanks guys,

For Q2, I have done my research, and found out somebody else had the exact same problem too. And his finding was the incompatibility between his router and n900. I strongly believe this is also my case. My router is Billion 7404VOPX. Will buy another router and try.

For Q5: battery performance improved with a few charges. Also found out, after fully charging, if you don’t disconnect your charger, you actually lose power slowly, if you turn on you phone immediately after you unplug your charger, you lose large amount of power, so give a few mins to cool down.

For your finding... I filed a bug no one seemed really in to... there is no battery saver kicking in at 80% or something please vote for it.

For turning on the device: turn it on before the device reaches "Fully Charged" state and you be good. Booting up the system eats the top left corner of your battery (literally) no matter if unplugged a second ago or an hour. My battery readings tell 89-96% right after the phone tells it is done with charging and remains 12h at 0% before it dies. I love precision!
