In some devices, certain themes can make a large impact on device performance, and I was wondering if this is the case with the N900 as well. Can a lightweight theme potentially be more responsive than a hefty alternative?

If this is the case, which light themes are known for their "speed"?

I take it that in this case it doesn't matter?

I'm not sure... For me Black Plastic Theme seems to make N900 slightly faster... But it doesn't really matter, because I think N900 is already fast, you can also overclock it. You might already know about the trick, if you don't:

Go with either Black Plastic (as mentioned above) or Marina.

I'd also look into custom Transitions/hildon-home as they make a massive difference to the overall feel of the phone.

Kind Regards,

To my knowledge there aren't any light weight themes.. maybe using the default icon theme are lighter than a custom to load. But thats it.

I do find that some themes are smoother/faster and others are slower though.

Could the size of the theme components (icons/frames/loading bars etc) have something to do with it?

Yeah, that would be the only logical reason. If the background picture is large it will take longer to load and use more resources than a small one. Same goes for icons. So i am guessing that the default icons might be lighter than to the custom ones some of the themes use.

I have tested a few themes and have not seen any big differances.. They are pretty equal to me.

i dont think it makes a big difference.
not sure if it does if you create graphics that are saved in low-quality with high compression to make the file-size smaller?!
