Many SMSc has a protocol where you tell the source ID - maybe your phone number of maybe even a text string.
But a lot of operators turns off this feature just since they don't want people to be able to send fake SMS messages. So paying customers gets a hard-coded sender string.
You have to search if any operator or company are offering any SMS gateway where you either may specify the source or where you may register your specific phone number by somehow showing that you own that number.
Does anyone know if it is possible to send SMS texts over the internet using a Maemo application, which will also appear as being sent from my phone when the text gets to the other phone? I have seen lots of online SMS gateways but sending a text from any of these does not show my phone number in the 'sent from' when it reaches the other person.
If there is an application that does all this it will reduce my bill.
Edit - had another thought, does anyone know of an SMS email gateway I could register on, so if I send an email to the gateway from my email account it is delivered as a text which appears to have been sent straight as an SMS from my phone? That could be a simpler way.
