I am changing my tariff so I will get less texts but a better data package. This means I have to pay more for my texts so I am looking for a cheaper way to send texts with the N900.

Does anyone know if it is possible to send SMS texts over the internet using a Maemo application, which will also appear as being sent from my phone when the text gets to the other phone? I have seen lots of online SMS gateways but sending a text from any of these does not show my phone number in the 'sent from' when it reaches the other person.

If there is an application that does all this it will reduce my bill.

Edit - had another thought, does anyone know of an SMS email gateway I could register on, so if I send an email to the gateway from my email account it is delivered as a text which appears to have been sent straight as an SMS from my phone? That could be a simpler way.

I noticed that and my company isn't there

The more I think about it, the more I think sending an email to an SMS gateway would be so simple but I'd still want the gateway to show the end text looks like it has been sent directly from my number. Could anyone help more with this instead of a specific application as I think there is more scope and potential for this?

Many SMSc has a protocol where you tell the source ID - maybe your phone number of maybe even a text string.

But a lot of operators turns off this feature just since they don't want people to be able to send fake SMS messages. So paying customers gets a hard-coded sender string.

You have to search if any operator or company are offering any SMS gateway where you either may specify the source or where you may register your specific phone number by somehow showing that you own that number.

That sounds like just what I need, I have been searching for about three hours looking for a service like this and have so far drawn a blank. Are you able to point me in the right direction please?
