Pidgin drains more afaik
If you're using MSN check out pecan.
It should consume the least battery.

wait a second. You asked about programs to use services but don't mention the services at all...
E:what search interval you have in settings?

does leaving your settings to connect automatically to any known wifi and 3g not work? perhaps you've left it connecting to any wifi and get html secure password access points taking priority over 3g connection and not giving you access?
i vaguely remember seeing a script someone wrote on here that would be used for connecting to public wifi's, but would ping an ip to test the connection, therefore not wasting time being connected to hotspots which require a password after connecting, perhaps this script could be modified to suit your settings?

i am using msn pecan IM .. the baked one on the n900 and last week ive downloaded pigdin internet app.. and the drain off battery irritated me.. i tried everything.. OC, Swappiness, the brightness off my screen.. and i also have disabled the update interval off my email and weather for example..

i was just curious wich program uses less battery .. cuz we dont have push like Whatsapp or something..

yehh that would be great.. cuz if im walking too my car and im on the wifi off my home.. its a shame that i need to reconnect manually to 3g to make a connection again -_-

if you go to internet connection settings, and change 'connect automatically' to any rather than wlan, this should be the expected behaviour. like i said the problem is free public hotspots with html passwords in this case. shouldn't be a problem walking to the car though. then again using IM while driving really isn't reccomended! :/
