well it seems the crazyest country in the galaxy has gone a step to far imo. it seems your freedom has slipped away completly. and there gonna take us all with them!!!!!!!!

COICA

In the United States, a new law proposal called The Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act (COICA) was introduced last week, and there will be a hearing in front of the Judiciary Committee this Thursday.

If passed, this law will allow the government, under the command of the media companies, to censor the internet as they see fit, like China and Iran do, with the difference that the sites they decide to censor will be completely removed from the internet and not just in the US.

Please see the following article from the Huffington Post for more information.

here

And if you are a US citizen, please take the time to sign this petition

click for petition

this could be the end of the internet as we know it!!!!

It's a form of democracy and free speech.

The leaders and public representatives can come up with idiotic recommendation and proposal (such as this) and the public are free to vote them down.

it depends on viewpoint. for example this page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democracy
probably doesn't exist in China.

so nothing will be removed but the content is filtered. Or did I understand completely wrong?

Since the US owns ICANN and they in turn practically control the root servers then in theory they can chop off any site they choose.

Anyway the US has always been a law unto itself. Witness the practically daily drone attacks in Pakistan. It's intended prosecution of that Russian arms dealer on the grounds that he intended weapons to sell weapons that may (speculatively) be used to harm US citizens in Colombia - just how does the US claim jurisdiction when none of those activities are taking place on US soil? Its prosecution of Afghan nationals for killing US soldiers in Afghanistan - WTF you invade a country and don't expect retaliation?
