Hello all,

Looking for some advice and help with my Nokia N900.

The old gal is running quite slow at times and has trouble with just one instance of browser running where OS starts to lag and doesn't respond to key touch. After a while it will come back to life.

I have tried the usual restart of unit, remove battery, clear browser history and such forth.

Have been through removing as many apps as possible incase it is a dodgy app.

Running a top command it never seems to be CPU that is the issue but Memory shows 240000k used, 5540k free. This is with no applications running. Only xterminal. Have cut down my desktop to only two screens and have nothing but shortcuts, contacts, calender and facebook widget.

I know most people will recommend flashing the unit but really not feeling the set up of device all over again.

Does anyone have any tips on locating whats gobbling memory. Also can you top command with it ordering by memory as this would be useful to see what is using it most. From looking at it now browserd is using 10.6% however there is multiple instances of it so overall it is using more. /usr/bin/xorg -logf is using 5.4% . Cannot see one thing in general using a large chunk of memory just seems to be an overrall combination of all things using memory at same time.

I can post screenshots if needed but will require installing screenshot app again.

Phone ran beautifully when I got it, prior to customizing!

Cheers in advance!

Two things

- Backup can save all your settings so a restore "restores" everything as you left it before the flash.

- Screeshot app? N900 has it built in. Ctrl+Shift+p

Ok screenshot attached.

Ok does that saving settings on back up also stored all applications? As if something is wrong with any of my apps that are causing this surely restoring them will just take me back to square one?

Nope, thought about it but didn't want to risk voiding any warranty on it. Plus not sure if overclocking will do anything as CPU doesn't seem to be issue, just memory getting eaten.

Update: Changing theme to standard theme seems to have made it run a bit quicker!

N900 generally has a curse of slowing down over time. Many users have reported this problem. Bug filed too I think.

I OC at 900MHz and it doesnt make much of a difference. I only OC so I can stream videos seamlessly.

Backup only stores the list of applications you had installed. On restoring it asks you to select which ones you wish to reinstall. At this point you can make changes if you wish.

Yeah suspected as much, hitting the 8 month mark since having phone so predicted that would be overall answer.

Have you got bug number so I can keep eye on it for any fixes?
