having a bit of a nightmare with the N900 e-mail client since the PR 1.3 upgrade.
with PR 1.2, the setup wasn't perfect either, it was occasionally unresponsive and would, from time to time, refuse to open a message - giving a 'not available on server' message.
my e-mail setup:
- two gmail accounts. one personal, one for work
- as one can imagine, they are set up identically
first quirk: i can get the accounts set up using the 'gmail' service provider in the e-mail account setup wizard. due to problems i will outline below, i've also tried a couple of times to set them up manually as a straight IMAP setups, but neither account would send mail, and i quadruple checked all the inputs with this guide: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/a...n&answer=78799 cross-checked with additional info available here: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/a...n&answer=78887
so, since the 'gmail' template in the setup wizard is the only option, that's what i've got going now. mail comes in fine on both accounts. i can even send mail properly from one account. but the other always fails on send "SMTP authentification failed. Check user name and password or that you have access to smtp.gmail.com".
the other weirdness that goes along with this is that when i try to send from account #2, the message can be seen in account #1's outbox (the reverse is also true, but it doesn't stop account #1 from working fine). i thought maybe the smtp send was getting crossed up, so i tried account #1's smtp info in account #2's setup, but that didn't work either.
long story short. i can't send e-mail from account #2 (although i can receive it). account #1 appears to work normally.
ok. i've gotten around this problem... which in the end didn't appear to be an actual problem.
i simply assumed that the setup was correct. so what i did was wiped both accounts, set them up via the 'gmail' wizard... and left them for about a day.
they didn't work at first, as described above... but eventually things kicked in and they're working as expected now.

this is a new problem since PR 1.3.
