Hi,

I am using the N900 for last one year. Recently it started with a strange problem.

Whenever I turn off the phone using the "Switch Off" option (The menu item displayed when pressed on the power button once), it shows the below issues:

1. The handset will not restart again unless I plug it to the charger.
When trying to start the handset (without connecting the charger), it vibrates and shows Nokia Logo and then the hanset remains turned off. Sometimes 4 dots will be displayed on the screen .

2. When connected to the chager or usb port, the Orange LED starts blinking and it keeps blinking even disconnected from changer/usb port.
When turned on, the battery indicator shows the "charging" status.

3. When fully, chaged, the Green LED keeps glowing always.
When turned on, the battery indicator shows the "Fully Charged" indication always.

The above issues doesn't occur, if I would have turned off the handset by a "Longpress" on the power button.

I kept the phone switched off for 1 week . After 1 week I connected to the chager and turned on. The phone got charged fully and I disconnected it from the charger. Everything was fine and I tried to trun off and on many times by "Longpress" on the power button. it worked fine without any issues.

But the moment I try to turnoff it by the "Switch Off" option , the issue starts again. Then I will have to wait for 1 week keeping the phone switched off to make it work again.

Can anybody please help me on this issue?

Would love to help, but it is big WTF for me. I know it isn't most bright advice, but 100% clean reflashing could help filtering out software issues. I'm worried, that You might be experiencing signs of hardware problems, and it is fastest way to check it.

If You decide to do so, please use it for a while without installing anything, and check if problem returns. Then, You may install/recover backups etc - after every step, check if You get this problem again.

I was wondering if this problem was fixed?

My n900 started playing up today but this is occurring from both soft turn off and the hardware shutdown. Would appreciate any information on if it was a hardware, battery or software issue since it has made the phone unusable since I have no idea what the battery level is and it failed on me during an important phone call then took over half an hour just to get it to turn on again.

Thanks

By god's grace, my n900 is working fine without issues as of now. (it may show probelms in the next moment )

I did the following :

1. Fully charged the phone
2. Switched off it and kept is in a dry pace for 3-4 days
3. Turned on the phone and removed the "Switch off" menu item from the "power button menu". This is possible by Modifying the "systemui.xml" file in the "/ect/systemui/" folder.

When I encounter this, I just remove and re-insert the battery and try starting again with the keyboard open. This brings up the multiboot screen, then i select the maemo option and then the phone behaves normally for quite some time.
