Search the forums... something to do with the version on the iPhone - it's older...

It doesn't work. I tried it with my fiancee who has an iPod Touch 4th Gen.

would be nice if it was universal! are there plans for skype to update their software on iphone? my feelings is that they really dont want that so facetime can grow

It would make more sense if the version on the N900 would be older. Even still I tried it as well and it doesn't work. I've been only able to get N900 to PC and vice versa to work

This is under discussion in the "Video Calls with Skype N900" thread. From what's been written there, it appears the issue is that Skype on Maemo 5 exclusively uses the H.264 codec for video, and few other versions of Skype support H.264. Skype on the iPhone does not, and only very recent desktop versions of Skype do.

Your only hope is that Skype releases a new revision of Skype for iPhone that supports H.264. The iPhone already uses H.264 for Facetime, so it's not a hardware limitation on the iPhone side. And an updated, more capable version of Skype for iPhone is infinitely more likely than any new version of Skype for Maemo 5.

Video calling Skype/N900 <-> Skype/iPhone seems to work now.
I tested it with an iPod Touch (latest gen). Version number of the Skype app is 3.0.1
