One of the first apps I wrote to test out BlueSMIRF connectivity was a simple garage door opener. The garage door remote we have is a simple 2 button controller (one for raising it up, and one for lowering it down) - i replaced the two buttons with relays connected to the arduino. So all I had to do was create a PyQt app with two buttons and pair my N900 with the BlueSMIRF, that enabled me to close the relays from my N900 and raise or lower the garage door. Couldn't be easier

Can't help you on the car unlock, although i have a garage i don't have a car
