normally when you connect your phone to PC, you'd be presented with choices to either connect using mass storage mode or PC suite mode. selecting area outside this dialog will set the phone on neither one, simply leave you at charging mode
or you could try force it to PC suite mode using PC-Connectivity Manager

edit. ah sorry, just reread your question and apparently you can select them on your phone but still not detected on the PC side, right?
have you tried looking at the device manager and uninstall existing driver and let the device reinstall the next time it's connected?

it says there is driver installation error..
jus turn off the laptop.. remove its power cable and battery.
then put em back in..
remember to remove the battery and cable.. not remove cable and pit it back in.. then battery and put it back in..
after doing that, turn ur laptop on and connect. it should work.

i have n 900 working fine till few days back
but now when i connect it with my laptop with usb
my laptop not showing it either via nass storage mode or PC suite mode
but it is charging well
i dont know where is problem
