I just saw a video of quake 2 running on the n800 on Youtube. You can see it yourself here:

It appears to be running at quite decent FPS. I would love to get my Quake on with the n800, but games like this are really only enjoyable with a mouse. Has anyone explored getting a bluetooth mouse working with the n800? There are many applications which would benefit from mouse support. There are some really nifty TINY bluetooth mice, too. Combine that with my bluetooth keyboard and you have the most mobile desktop on earth.

This is awesome, I am going to try to compile right now.

We now need quakeworld clients, unless thats built into Quetoo

I really want a gamespy client, that would be aewsome. Heck if I can play on my local network with my kids I would be happy. That BT gamepad is going to come in handy!!

It would be great if we could get a .deb of this and hopefully have the actual game files stored on SD. It sounds like this is a pretty major branching from the original Q2 sourcecode. They specifically mention network optimizations on the main page, so I doubt this is network compatible with retail released Q2. They do provide a server, though, so maybe we could get one going for ITT people to play on?

I am still pretty dubious on how playable this is going to be without a n800 specific port and/or mouse support. Trying to play a FPS with a stylus is not easy. I had enough trouble with doom, much less a true 3d FPS. I know people have hooked up keyboards to their USB ports. Has anyone attempted a mouse?

you should be able to set the stylus to shoot. just point and shoot

It would be nice if that were true, but frequently monsters are above you and you need to pan your perspective and then shoot. Having each tap of the screen trigger a shot is a bad idea...

Quake 2 for the n800 is now available. I posted a brief write-up on my blog, complete with video. Does anyone know the viability of getting a bluetooth mouse to work on the n800? A FPS really loses something when unable to play with a mouse + keyboard. I have the keyboard bit down thanks to my Nokia SU-8W, but no luck on the mouse yet...

Just trying it.. I need to know what values to use for the key bindings..
I would like to set the joypad up/down to move ahead/back, the right/left to move right/left, the middle button to shoot. It would be nice to use the finger to watch around.
Dunno about the touch screen, but the buttons should be easily configurable.
You can also bind the volume up/down to next weapon etc

I need help with getting quetoo to work. When I execute quetoo in XTerminal I get the following error:

Error: Couldn't load pics/colormap.pcx

I'm using the quake 2 demo data files and see this file anywhere. Any suggestions?

One thing which occured to me after fiddling around with Quake 2 on the N800 is that the port of quetoo currently only uses software rendering. The N800 has a PowerVR MBX 3d accelerator, which has seen pretty much zero use thus far. This same accelerator is playing Quake 3 on the latest Dell Axim at 640*480 at 25 fps. Granted, the Axim has about twice the clockspeed of the n800, but a Quake 2 or Quake 1 acceleration would be much less taxing than Quake 3, as well. Any crafty programmers with too much time on their hands intrigued by the possibilities?

Indeed, it would be great to have 3d acceleration, but alas, we cannot. The reason is that powervr does not (at least publicly) even have drivers for linux 2.6 series or kernels, only for 2.4 series. They state that the driver architecture has changed too much. Now, I would assume that would Nokia pay them enough, they would develop it (or they may already have developed it, just not publicized it) and after Nokia payed the license fees, we could have the support. But for now, don't hold your breath to see any accelerated 3d on the N800.
