BLOODY HELL. i just found out how this worked. KA Consulting is a local company (where i live) and i called them up. apparently they are working with the local Nokia office and *PUSHING* the app out to owners!!!!!!!!!!!

how can this be? i didn't even ASK for it to be installed! it's not a system app or firmware update etc. it's just a bloody 3rd party application.

ok, this just irks me to no end. other than the thread about "MyNokia subscription in PR 1.2", what else is nokia up to??? how much control do they really have over our devices?

Did you try calling Nokia to ask what the hell was up with that?

yes, i'm very serious about this. i'm going to call them (Nokia) up shortly. but the conversation with that ISV has gotten me all worked up. i'm really pissed.

i innocently asked them about software for the n900 and they mentioned they have one and when i said "hey i saw it on my friend's phone" they said yeah they were working with nokia to push it out to devices. (*!@^#$%

gonna call them now!

Not installed on mine (is this a regional thing?). Maybe it's N900s sold by certain carriers?

Nevertheless, this is very bad.

It's definitely not worldwide. I live in Malaysia. The ISV is a local company.

I just got off the phone with Nokia support and the lady on the other end was clueless (AS EXPECTED). my only regret now is that i had uninstalled the application. is there a log somewhere that i can access for evidence?

This may be a first among current smartphone platforms?

Nokia seems to reverse the trend... when other companies install kill-switches to delete apps remotely, they install spam-switches to sh*t on us from afar.

Or perhaps they misunderstood all the fuss about 'push technology' that everyone seems to implement into their messaging systems...

Or it could simply be a throwback to Windows-era 'bundled apps'...

but seriously though...

@droll: could you provide us with URLs and screenshots please?
