The bump probably uses the accelerometer and bluetooth to send/receive the data. How does it work with lots of phones in the area? And do you have to keep bumping say 10 phones if you want to send the data to all 10 people ?

According to their FAQ, the application uses the accelerometer to trigger the passing of your contact data through the Bump Technologies servers to the other device. So, it's using the data connection, not Bluetooth. And yes, you'll need to keep bumping to pass your info to everyone. In fact, you may need to bump more than once per person.
And Bump Technologies just needs monitor your location and have access to your full contact information. They're good folks though, so there's no cause for worry. Really.
