Pretty much just want to install screen, I am very surprised it is not on the feeds other than here http://maemo.org/packages/view/screen/ but it wont install. I used screen constantly with my old Zaurus to grab podcasts SSH'ing from my laptop and then disconnect and let a wget script run on its own.

Nobody else wants screen without having to use debbie? Being console I would think a quick easy scratchbox compile would do the trick.

It's in the repos

wget http://repository.maemo.org/pool/mae...+0m5_armel.deb

dpkg -i screen screen_4.0.3-0.3osso4+0m5_armel.deb

Could you say why it won't install?

Because he tried installing it through the App Manager, perhaps? I tried that first and it complained that it couldn't install it, then I downloaded it and installed it with dpkg and aside from a complaint that the post-install script couldn't find /usr/sbin/add-shell it installed fine and seems to work okay apart from an error on startup that says "Aborted because of window size change".

Since most of us use a PC to connect and manage our devices and we mostly have a Linux/Unix background perhaps Screen should be added to the repositories.
For those who don't know screen allows a user to log in via SSH, start a program, and disconnect while the program or script continues to run.
I am surprised that this is not in the stable feed already as it is a standard Unix console application.

I've just tried installing too - and got the same error, but it installs and runs OK.

Code:
Nokia-N900:/home/user/MyDocs/tmp# dpkg -i screen_4.0.3-0.3osso4+0m5_armel.deb
Selecting previously deselected package screen.
(Reading database ... 58348 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking screen (from screen_4.0.3-0.3osso4+0m5_armel.deb) ...
Setting up screen (4.0.3-0.3osso4+0m5) ...
/var/lib/dpkg/info/screen.postinst: line 23: /usr/sbin/add-shell: not found
install-info(/usr/share/info/screen.info): no file /usr/share/info/dir, retrieving backup file /var/backups/infodir.bak.

It allows you to keep a terminal session running on a host even after you've disconnected. And more.

Eg: http://www.rackaid.com/resources/lin...al-and-how-to/ and many, many, many others
