It doesn't happen very often but I sometimes have a problem with my N900 that it doesn't react anymore and I need to remove the battery so I can actually reboot the phone.

Now as for the N9, there is no possibility to remove the battery - so how can one restart the phone in such a case?

I think the "Press the lock screen button for 5 seconds" is burned into hardware, rather than software. If this doesn't work anymore, let it run out of juice, shutdown and recharge... :P

I've had it go completely unresponsive, and the power button still worked its magic, so I think it's ok. Not that I wouldn't like a removable battery anyway though. And an sd slot.

Read the manual . There is 10s force switch to build in the circuit. Just like PC.
