I can't import contacts or import calendars to the N9. Only options are importing from another device or from an online service.

This is ridiculous and should be addressed immediately.
Make such a simple task so complicated.

Okay, but why did you post this in a Maemo community forum?
Maybe you should talk to Nokia instead, as I've heard that they produced the N9? ;-)

I find it hard to believe there isn't a way to do this.
Maybe export your vcard/ics files to Google's online apps.
And then import to N9 using the "online service" option.

Keep searching you will find it....
It might not be part of the GUI yet but there's always a way, even if it's not in the GUI.
The same cannot be said for most other mobile OS's.

@Mike Fila

It's in vcard format.
In order to get around this and overcomplicate things, I had to get my N900 out and pair it w/N9 then sync calendars through bluetooth. But there is bug with this method, all events show up in N9 a day later!? Someone please file a bug for this as I do not know how. Other users on nokia discussion reported the same result when syncing calendars from another device to N9 using bluetooth.

With contacts things went smoothly by syncing w/N900.

Why can't it just be able to import ics and vcard files like my n900?! It bothers me that I need another device to set up my phone.

It's easy to do, you just need to put a bit of thought into it.

Else you're not going to make it easy for them understand the exact nature of the problem

I have found out that it's possible to import vcard files by opening it through a file manager on the N9 or through the N9's search program. However, there's no option to import actual vcard files in the contacts app. There is however an option to export contacts in the contacts app. By going to contacts app and tapping the options menu, you'll see export, tap that and you'll see two options: to sim or to file.

Unfortunately, I'm still running into trouble importing ics calendar files.
When I open the file on the N9, it just opens a random event imbedded in the ics file and that's it. It still won't go further than that. It still doesn't show my new calendar imported into calendar app.
