So now there's a new one for users to try, if they don't already have Swype pre-installed.

But apparently in Android it's quite easy to replace the pre-installed Swype with this.

So the obvious question is...
Have any Maemo6x users renamed their Swype binary, & replaced it with the latest beta?
Would it be possible, or would there be too many complications?

I would've had a closer look myself, but I'm still waiting for the white N9 to become available.

Swype for Android won't work in Harmattan (I think). However, it is possible one to port a specific layout from an Android beta to N9's Swype (although only from an old beta, since they changed the layout structure lately and the files are binary).

Hmmm, sounds like it could be a waste of time...

It would be great though.. I tried the beta version on Android and was impressed. Mind you it was my first contact with swype, waiting delivery of my N9 so i don't know how it compares.
But I loved the speech function! Quite accurate even for my bad english.

Never used swype, never plan to... Though I know that the swype guys at the Meego Conference were as cool as can be

Good thing we have choice I was used to physical keyboards until now and for me Swype is easier to use than normal typing.

I agree. I was a big fan of physical keyboard and was worried if I could survive without it. I was not too happy with the N9 original VKB either.

Now I am a big fan of swype. It is fantastic. It is very easy and accurate to type, even with just one hand. You just have to have the open mind to give it a try.

I think Swype could work.

I know for certain the early versions will work because they didn't incorporate the phone version into its code, but they lacked some dictionary words and had some bugs.

The new version is pure awesomeness, but they need a qualifying build.prop to work otherwise it crashes. It can be done, and shouldn't be too hard, but it requires a weekend of an experienced dev.

In English yes, in Finnish no (long words with different bendings in the end).

And terminal use with swype is not that precise either. I agree that swype is generally better for portrait use.
