did PR1.2 have any options to increase/change the os font size at all?

no, but you can use n9qtweak to change text in conversations, icon names, and lockscreen & standby screen
i'm not sure if there is one around for changing Event entries

thanks. is that fairly easy to install without too much tinkering to get it up and running?
