Hey guys,

had a bit of a search around and couldn't find any information regarding my little problem.

I recently bought myself a(nother) N9. it shipped from HK, was made in Finland, but had an MEA product code (PR006).
On the box it has a message
"the standard GPS features have been disabled in accordance with market regulations"

i tried flashing it to the generic Australian firmware (PR005), but have had no luck in re-enabling the internal GPS.

Is this possible? Or is it disabled on the hardware side?

That's weird.. GPS isn't banned for public use in Middle Eastern countries. I think that phone was intended for some other market.

It is not disabled in the hardware side, since all N9s have the GPS receiver. It's just disabled from the software side. Try flashing it with legacy MEA firmware again.

If you flashed from 006 to 005 surely the flash failed...Try 006 or higher and do a rootfs+emmc flash...

Your story doesn't add up, from hong kong made in finland, running mea?

Let's try that again, what's the number on your sim tray starts with 059...

As far as I can tell (using Flasher 3.12.1) I flashed both successfully. I'll give it another go with a different image though

Don't know what to say, other than it's the truth.

http://flic.kr/p/cXBdyo - N9 Box
http://flic.kr/p/cXBdQb - Sim tray
http://flic.kr/p/cXBdTG - Tracking information

The number on my sim tray reads (as shown) 059J229, which is the product variant for "RM-696 NDT MEA3 BLACK 64GB"

So yeah, I don't know....
All I know is, when I go into GPS & Positioning in the settings menu, I only have the option of External GPS device (under GPS device)

*edit* I flashed variant 059J233 with both DFL61_HARMATTAN_40.2012.21-3_PR_LEGACY_005-OEM1-958_ARM.bin
and DFL61_HARMATTAN_40.2012.13-7.SEAP_EMMC_SEAP.bin

Exactly that's my point you are trying to flash from pr006 to pr005!

Flash pr006 or higher to get things working!
